Dos hermanos y un amigo llegaron a La Habana en 1864 tras estudiar en Filadelfia durante varios a\u00f1os. Trajeron equipo y cierta costumbre para un juego, sin saber que sentar\u00edan las bases de lo que se convertir\u00eda en el Deporte Nacional de Cuba a principios del siglo XX. Una pasi\u00f3n que perdura hasta nuestros d\u00edas en la isla y ha sido declarada Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad desde 2021.<\/p>

A grandes rasgos, as\u00ed podr\u00edamos resumir el punto de partida, o algunas de las razones por las que este 13 de diciembre la Biblioteca Nacional de Cuba acogi\u00f3 la Conferencia Cient\u00edfica \u201c160 A\u00f1os de B\u00e9isbol Cubano: Origen, Cultura y V\u00ednculos Internacionales\u201d, organizada de conjunto por la plataforma filantr\u00f3pica Fundaci\u00f3n Cuba, la Federaci\u00f3n Cubana de B\u00e9isbol y Softbol y la propia Biblioteca.<\/p>

Los asistentes fueron recibidos por un cartel que representaba a Esteban Bell\u00e1n al bate, el primer jugador cubano y latinoamericano en jugar en la liga profesional de Estados Unidos. A su lado, se encuentran la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, patrona de Cuba, y otros s\u00edmbolos importantes de la naci\u00f3n. El mismo proceso que condujo a la construcci\u00f3n de la naci\u00f3n cubana y a la independencia del pa\u00eds es el del b\u00e9isbol. El primer club de b\u00e9isbol se cre\u00f3 en 1868, a\u00f1o en que Carlos Manuel de C\u00e9spedes pronunci\u00f3 el Grito de Yara; por lo tanto, hablamos de cosas demasiado profundas y esenciales para la vida de la naci\u00f3n como para ignorarlas, precisamente en un momento en que el b\u00e9isbol cubano, desde una perspectiva competitiva y tambi\u00e9n desde la perspectiva del gusto popular y lo que representa en el imaginario popular, est\u00e1 en su peor momento\u00bb, explica el ensayista, historiador y profesor universitario F\u00e9lix Julio Alfonso L\u00f3pez, uno de los panelistas.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Los temas abordados en la conferencia cient\u00edfica fueron diversos, desde la historia hasta la presencia en Nueva York, Colombia y M\u00e9xico. Entre los participantes, tanto presenciales como virtuales, se encontraban Leonardo Padura, Norberto Codina, Rafael Acosta de Arriba, Omar Vali\u00f1o y Roberto Gonz\u00e1lez Echevarr\u00eda, entre otros. Las presentaciones se complementaron con presentaciones de libros y una exposici\u00f3n.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cEs importante celebrar este evento porque marca el origen de esta gran instituci\u00f3n que llamamos b\u00e9isbol aqu\u00ed en Cuba. Conmemoramos c\u00f3mo lleg\u00f3 desde Estados Unidos y c\u00f3mo se extendi\u00f3 desde aqu\u00ed a otras partes de Latinoam\u00e9rica. Es una historia muy hermosa y enriquecedora, y es importante hablar de ella con los j\u00f3venes\u201d, declar\u00f3 Gustavo Arnavat, director ejecutivo y fundador de la Fundaci\u00f3n Cuba, a OnCuba. \u201cUno es restaurar el Palmar de Junco, lo cual ser\u00eda un proyecto muy interesante. Obviamente, debe hacerse con respeto por este lugar tan especial, trabajando con arquitectos, ingenieros y dise\u00f1adores, bas\u00e1ndonos en las mejores pr\u00e1cticas de restauraci\u00f3n arquitect\u00f3nica. Es algo que estamos considerando como un proyecto a largo plazo. Tambi\u00e9n queremos trabajar en la conexi\u00f3n de instrumentos de juego \u2014guantes, pelotas y gorras\u2014 para traerlos a Cuba y distribuirlos de forma inclusiva y gratuita. Y el pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o, nos gustar\u00eda celebrar una conferencia t\u00e9cnica como esta que se centre m\u00e1s en los v\u00ednculos entre Estados Unidos y Cuba, pero en particular en el importante papel de las Ligas Negras. Es una historia muy rica que necesita ser contada\u201d, explica Arnavat, dejando claro que la reuni\u00f3n de este viernes es solo un paso en el camino que esperan recorrer en la Fundaci\u00f3n Cuba, donde el deporte es una de las cinco l\u00edneas de cooperaci\u00f3n entre actores privados de ambos pa\u00edses.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Existe una relaci\u00f3n muy s\u00f3lida; el b\u00e9isbol lleg\u00f3 de Estados Unidos y, con el tiempo, en la Rep\u00fablica, se cre\u00f3 un v\u00ednculo muy fuerte entre cubanos y estadounidenses. Ese v\u00ednculo se ha roto por razones ajenas al deporte, eminentemente pol\u00edticas, pero hoy hay un grupo significativo de beisbolistas cubanos jugando en Estados Unidos y triunfando.
