The Cuba Foundation is a philanthropic platform that inspires, promotes and facilitates sustainable development projects that directly benefit the Cuban people. We do this by mobilizing financial, intellectual and human capital to advance purposeful and impactful activities with a special focus on the private sector.
Our work supports Cuba’s emerging private sector because it is our belief that mixed economies — those that combine an effective and efficient state sector with a responsive and resilient private sector — are best positioned to generate long-term, sustainable economic growth and social benefits.
We are a development organization — not a political or ideological group — that derives its funding primarily from private sector donors. To maintain our independence and objectivity, and to comply with legal requirements, we strictly limit funding from official United States or Cuban sources. Together with our advisers, we have many years of professional economic and social development experience that inform our vision, programming and the management of our resources.

We selected these areas to support a diversified portfolio approach to our programming, thus enhancing the probability of our overall success and impact, and because development is linked to a wide variety of social and economic activities. Our projects are designed to meet development objectives with measurable results and must include a strong private sector component.
Our logo was inspired by the mariposa blanca, chosen as Cuba’s national flower in 1936 due to its elegance, fragrance and its use by Cuba’s independence fighters to hide sensitive messages during Cuba’s War of Independence. It was designed by Victor Manuel Cabrera Muñiz, one of Cuba’s leading independent graphic artists, known for his works promoting Havana’s vibrant art scene. His concept captures the essence of our vision: rooted in tradition but focused on the future. Our logo has been granted registered trademarks in both the US and Cuba.
The Cuba Foundation is a New York State not-for-profit corporation dedicated to fostering sustainable development initiatives that directly help the Cuban people. Our mission is powered by your generosity. We are a fiscally sponsored project of Give2Cuba, a Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that raises funds in the United States, provides humanitarian and other assistance to Cuba, and supports philanthropic groups, such as us, with important administrative services. Donors who wish to fund the work of the Cuba Foundation do so by donating to Give2Cuba through the donation box on this page.
