An Artistic Reflection on Time and Its Materiality

/

As part of its commitment to cultural projects that question the notion of time from various perspectives, Kaipos Vintage Watch had the honor of participating as a sponsor of the Perpetual_ exhibition, inaugurated at Galería Taller Gorría and featuring a selection of 60 contemporary Cuban artists.

Curated by Maybel Elena Martínez Rodríguez and Alejandro Jurado, Perpetual_ is structured around horology as a symbolic field, where time ceases to be understood exclusively as a unit of measurement and becomes a cultural construct, a sensory experience, and a critical material.

The works included in the exhibition navigate between the deconstruction of the watch as a functional object and the exploration of the perpetual through visual, performative, and conceptual lenses. Some of them incorporate watches as a medium or support, shifting their technical function toward symbolic languages that question linearity, repetition, suspension, or accumulation as alternative forms of temporality.

The general production was led by Deborah García Zulueta and César López-Chávez Pérez, founder of Kaipos, who was part of the project team from its conception. The team was completed by Carlos Montané (installation), Marialis Martínez (communications), Javier G. Borbolla (visual design), Juan Carlos Viera Bravo (brand identity), and Abraham Arronte (graphic design).

Kaipos Vintage Watch’s participation in Perpetual_ reflects a shared vision: time as an experience that deserves to be inhabited with awareness and depth. Just like the watches we promote—mechanical legacies of another sensibility—this exhibition invites viewers to look beyond precise measurement and reconnect with the rhythms of memory, intuition, and art.
